Adrian Peterson: Hard-working Brees is ‘the truth’
Drew Brees turned 39 in January, but if you looked at his statistics, you wouldn’t know it.
The quarterback posted his best passer rating since his 2013 season, posted his lowest interception total since 2004 and logged his highest completion percentage in his career. Sure, the touchdown and yardage totals 23 and 4,334 aren’t quite as gaudy as recent years, but New Orleans sprinted to success in 2017 with its most balanced attack in nearly a decade.
Last year’s NBA Finals MVP made his initial five field goals Sunday, driving right at James on offense and doing all he could to fluster him on defense.
James hit a 3 over Durant’s outstretched arm midway through the third, then Tristan Thompson’s basket the next possession pulled the Cavs within 72-66. But they couldn’t contain Curry and the rest of the Warriors for extended stretches.
With Jim Schwartz, the Eagles more often will use five defensive backs as opposed to three linebackers. Kendricks would’ve likely been the odd man out last season, but once Jordan Hicks suffered a season-ending injury, Kendricks took on a bigger role. With Hicks healthy and Nigel Bradham returning, Kendricks likely would’ve been relegated to more reserve and special teams duty than he’s accustomed.
Now, he’ll join a talented Browns linebacker group that also includes Jamie Collins and Christian Kirksey.
The Eagles and Browns will face off in Cleveland on Aug. 23 in Week 3 of the pre-season.
Really, that’s the happiest ending a 1-31 stretch of football could’ve produced. Now, the Browns have to hope years of misery and the collecting of draft picks will finally result in a winning product. If it doesn’t, Jackson will likely find himself out of a job with his Lake Erie plunge being the only memorable positive moment from his tenure. If it does, Jackson’s Lake Erie cleanse will provide Cleveland with the perfect symbolic moment from their extensive and seemingly unending rebuild.
On Saturday, the former Browns quarterback confirmed he will sign his two-year deal with the CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats, after participating in April’s spring league and several pro-days in front of NFL personnel.
